Twitter went down again yesterday for the second time in a month.  Immediately, groups of protesters started popping up all over the world.  Why?  The Fail Whale failed to appear.

The Twittersphere experienced technical difficulties yesterday morning around 11:15 EST.  Users saw the service slow to a crawl, and their tweets never posted.  However, the cute whale never appeared to alert them to a problem, which really confused them.  Protests began popping up in several cities, with demonstrators demanding to see their old friend.

Asked how they organized a protest while the service was down, one protester explained, “We all looked up from our devices at the same time.  That’s when we knew something bad was happening.  Then we started, um, what’s the word for it… talking.  Yes, we started talking to each other, and that’s when we started demanding the whale.”

Twitter eventually came back, and the demonstrators disbanded peacefully, all looking down again.
